“Is it ‘wishy-washy’ to consider both sides of an issue?  Does it put you in danger of accepting all viewpoints as equally valid, even in cases where one view might be uninformed or perhaps malevolent?  In a word, no.  The willingness to consider both sides is one of the bedrock principles of critical thinking.” Warren Berger

We are living in polorized times and to some degree many of us have dropped into information silos.  Thus, instead of having informed and respectful conversations with each other, we are shouting past each other.

Find a way to stay curious – even if it is just to ask yourself “Why do I believe what I believe?”  Sometimes we have believed something for a long time, but we haven’t accounted for our own growth and change.  Sometimes, we just need to reaffirm that a particular believe is still rooted in our personal values.

When we ask those powerful questions of ourself, it helps identify our biases when we are listening to others.
